Military Police Complaints Commission · MPCC PII-EIP-2015-005
Redacted summary
The Military Police Complaints Commission (MPCC) conducted a Public Interest Investigation (PII-EIP-2015-005) into an anonymous complaint alleging that Canadian military police members abused Afghan detainees at Kandahar Airfield during a training exercise in 2011, and that a Canadian commander ignored charges recommended following a Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (CFNIS) investigation. After reviewing over 3,000 pages of documents and interviewing more than 70 witnesses, the Commission found both allegations unsubstantiated and no evidence of detainee abuse, while identifying investigative deficiencies in the CFNIS inquiry and issuing 13 recommendations for improvement. The Final Report was released on September 2, 2021, with an addendum added on March 14, 2024.
